THE PITCH NEWSLETTER JAN ‘26
WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
2018B Green and Coach Diego Lopez-Videla celebrate the holidays!
IT’S TIME FOR A NEW YEAR!
Our players are all very excited to be taking a break from school to enjoy time with friends and families. That includes team “Secret Santa”, team holiday parties, generally being silly, and reminding us all of why we enroll our kids in team sports to begin with.
This holiday season, we want to give a warm and heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every family that is a part of our club and community. Every weekend, I walk around the soccer fields and see teams competing hard, but also, I see players celebrating together, encouraging each other, and overcoming challenges together. I see parents on the sidelines laughing, cheering, clinking their morning coffee together, and forming lasting bonds.
As we all enter into the New Year, let’s all move forward with gratitude for each other, and for the sport that has brought us together! Happy New Year from Pflugerville FC!
Pfestival of Lights Parade
Dec 6
Last month, Pflugerville FC walking in the Pflugerville Parks and Rec Pfestival of Lights Parade in downtown Pflugerville. This year’s theme was “Shining Through the Decades”. We celebrated and proudly represented the 1980’s which is the decade that PFC was founded!
Our volunteers met beforehand to create a special soccer goal float, complete with garland and lights; and marched with their neon glow sticks to hand out candy to the spectators.
Long time board member Grayson Hopper was seen in his referee outfit, hilariously blowing his whistle and giving out red cards to folks for various different reasons!
Coach Steve Roy working alongside a player during a league game.
Winter Indoor League Started
Dec 13
The players in our Winter Indoor League are looking sharp in their new league jerseys! December 13th was the first weekend of league matches and we had a great time! This year PFC has partnered with Manor Senior High to provide a beautiful indoor facility for our Saturday matches. Our kids had tons of space to play on new turf, and parents got to escape the elements.
There is still time to join us in the new year! Schedules and registration can be found HERE. Use code NY-WINTER30 at checkout for 30% off. Offer ends Jan 4th.

FEATURED GUEST
NEW for 2026! Each month I will be featuring someone in the club who has made a positive impact in one way or another. This may be a board member, staff member, coach, or volunteer. If you would like to nominate someone, email me!
To start off the New Year, I chose to feature someone that has dedicated over 20 years to the club in many different roles. He is someone that you can always talk to if you need advice, and even during a disagreement, he remains one of the most caring and respectful people I’ve ever met. I have seen him step into very challenging situations that not many are cut out for, and he handles them with grace and compassion. That person is our beloved Vice President of the board, Mario Ibanez.
Mario’s 4 kids all played for PAYSL between the years 2000-2010. He says “they are all now in their 30s taking on the world.” In the real world, he is a Solutions Account Manager at Keysight Technologies Inc. In his free time, he is not only our Vice President of the Board, but he is also the head coach of our 2012G Blue Select team.
“His patience and wisdom are invaluable to all areas of the club. He coaches with passion and excitement for the players’ growth. He guides challenging decisions with a calm demeanor. Mario is one of a kind!”
Q: What are the responsibilities of Vice President?
Mario: “Support the Board President as required and support and provide guidance to the Board of Directors. Chair of Disciplinary and Protest Committee and providing guidance to any/all PFC members.”
Q: Why did you decide to take your position?
Mario: “To support our community's young athletes in their personal, soccer, and athletic development.”
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your role?
Mario: “Seeing the positive results in our players' development as a result of the services made possible by our PFC Staff, and the dozens of volunteers in a multitude of roles in support of PFC's Mission and Vision.”
For over two decades, Mario has poured himself into the development of youth in our Pflugerville community, both as soccer players and as young people who will someday go out into the world and make an impact of their own. Please join me in saying THANK YOU Mario!
“Mario is the Pflugerville Soccer historian… He is the ultimate volunteer and his impact on the club and community is beyond measure. He is truly ‘Super Mario’!”
